Sweet 16 !!

Well, my oldest daughter is turning 16 today. 16?? Not to sound cliché’d or anything, but where have the years gone? It is hard to believe that she could be that old. It only seems like a couple of years ago (NO – not yesterday! Not yet anyway…) that we were bringing Erin home from the hospital and I was saying goodbye to her and Cindy, wondering if I would ever see them again. I don’t want to sound all maudlin or anything, but somewhere we still have the letter I wrote to Erin, just in case I did not come back from Desert Storm, we just did not know… Now Erin has blossomed into an incredible young lady. She is beautiful, talented, and has a heart to follow after God. What more could a father ask for? She is actively serving in the church – she recently started teaching the older girls in the children’s ministry once a month. I just need to figure out a way to keep the boys away for another 8 to 10 years!

God has blessed us with fantastic kids, and it is a joy to be their father. It is fun to watch them as they grow older, and especially to see how all of them are thriving in a foreign culture and very foreign place. The kids truly are a blessing to us, and Cindy and I are incredibly thankful. So, you may ask, what do such incredible kids do for fun in Albania? Erin has recently discovered that she loves to take digital photos and to play with them using various editing programs. Yesterday the kids discovered something almost as fun as editing the photos though!

We have a water filter that sits on our kitchen counter. It is tall and silver and has this great bulge in the middle that gives some very distorted reflections. Erin discovered how to take pictures of the reflections! This is what they came up with!

Old Jay Leno has nothing on my kids! This is MK ingenuity at its best! I think we may even try to get some more great photos this way – what do you think?

Happy Birthday to her! Praise God you're blessed as a dad. Continue in that joy, and may you have the greatest joy of continuing to know that they walk in truth! :)
